   Excellent customer service. I booked an outdoor table and because the weather changed theyd also reserved an indoor table for us, which we ended up taking instead. Good food too

   I can only reiterate my comments on our visit to the City Barge last Thursday, March 20, brilliant! Obviously, Sunday was busier, but still the attention and service we received was excellent.

   In our opinion the City Barge is the best pub along Strand on the Green, Chiswick. Ian Wright is an excellent host and looks after his guests, that's probably because he values them. His staff are friendly and very efficient. Mind you Mr Wright, Ian, holds no brook with unruly behavior, thank goodness. Oh, I must not forget the chef, great craftsman.

   We visited the City Barge very last minute yesterday for lunch, and aren’t we glad we did. We sat by the river and felt like we could have been anywhere in the world. A slice of peace. The chunky chips were to die for, and a great selection of ales for my husband. The icing on the cake though had to be our server George. He welcomed us as if we were old friends and made us feel that way until the moment we left. Making us laugh, sharing knowledge of the area and being the perfect balance of attentive but not invasive - in my husbands words “the kind of service you just don’t get anymore”. Thank you George - we hope to be back soon to get stranded by the tide.

   Ordered roast beef and had to send it back as we had asked for pink meat and received brown. The next portion was pink, but was about a quarter of the size of the original portion. Meat was stringy and tasteless, full of gristle. Portions on the small side, Have eaten here several times, and was definitely less good on this occasion.

   We booked a table for 8pm. The restaurant area of the pub was very busy and it took ages to get served: staff ignored us instead of one coming over and apologising and saying bear with us. Also took us ages to get the bill - so long we were tempted to walk out. The menus was restricted -sold out of choices, so if you go here worth going earlier. Understandable when late in a pub but far less understand was lack of condiments. No salt on the table and when we asked for some the first mill brought to us was empty. That’s really poor - checking every table has a working salt mill is surely basic.

   Hi Catherine, Many thanks indeed for taking the time to leave us a review, I'm sorry we didn't quite get it right on this occasion. Indeed, it was an incredibly busy day with the unseasonal sunshine and post football match rush. Summer levels of trade on winter levels of staff is always going to be challenging, and although we called in all available bodies it's still nowhere near enough. Although the waiter is very experienced it is only his second week here, so again I'm sorry if he wasn't quite quick enough, it does take a little time to learn the ropes. The table certainly did have both salt and pepper at the beginning of the day, so it is a rather sad by the time of your visit one of these had gone missing. We do hope you'll give us another chance.    Probably our fault but booked a table on a Saturday evening when Brentford were at home and the Six Nations was on. Consequently had run out of a lot of things on the menu.

    Hi Robert, Many thanks indeed for taking the time to leave us a review, I'm sorry your visit didn't live up to expectations. Pre the Brentford football game with the unseasonably warm weather did mean that service was stretched, though I'm glad to see that you were able to be seated, have your meal and drinks and be out in just over an hour. When time is of the essence I have to say the kitchen and front of house teams did superbly to achieve this for the supporters, serving a drink or food item every 15 seconds is a remarkable acheivement on what you rightly point out, is winter levels of staff. Unfortunately we can't hire people in February, train them and give them fair hours on the off chance there will be a sunny spell in the first week of March. Kind regards Ian Wright, GM
