The Olde Dog Inn at Herongate Tye is a picturesque Essex weather boarded inn. Known to date from the early 16th century, the pub has been serving good beer and food for hundreds of years. A wealth of traditional features greets you upon arrival with low-beamed ceilings, exposed fireplaces and a friendly atmosphere.

Once again The Olde Dog Inn has been voted by OpenTable diners as one of the best. Thank you so much to all our customers that dined with us and left a review.

*Bookings for tables of more than 6 people require a £10pp deposit which will be deducted from your bill on the day. Please note that deposits are non-refundable. If more that 48 hours’ notice is given for cancellation, we will be happy to move your deposit to a future booking or provide a gift voucher for the amount.

    Friendly welcome. Good amount of food options Food a little underwhelming but ok. Lady serving very friendly & engaging. Generally nice atmosphere

    We were celebrating a joint family birthday and I had travelled from Sussex to come to the Olde Dog for the first time. We all had roast dinners which were absolutely delicious but could have been served a bit warmer. The starters were very good, crispy prawns and whitebait. The whitebait were plump and cooked perfectly with a lovely crisp coating. The pork crackling was excellent and all the vegetables were cooked really well. The pub was very cold but the staff explained about the issues with the boiler and alternative heaters were provided and it did warm up eventually. I look forward to coming back again! Thank you.

    The waiting staff were excellent - cheerful, appropriately chatty, prompt - and the food (we ate mostly off the specials menu) was plentiful and good. All the party enjoyed it and would go again.

    Had a lovely Sunday lunch with friends. Very busy inside - staff were working really hard to serve everybody and were friendly and helpful . Food was so lovely - perfect atmosphere.
