   If it wasn’t for the service this would have been much lower. The bread arrived frozen in the middle which you don’t expect for a reputable establishment. I would have expected this to be taken off the bill but it was still there and gratuity also (paid only due to the attentiveness of the lady looking after the table)

   We chose to dine at The Star for our anniversary dinner during a special weekend trip to York, having never been there before and having seen good reviews on the Internet. The food is good though not outstanding. We chose the sourdough and beer butter nibbles to start off with. Having been used to having sourdough where we live daily, this I have to say, is not true sourdough and there was very little colouring nor flavouring to the beer butter which was a shame as we know how good this can be. A lovely menu, just not outstanding. It is quite a large venue and was busy as it was a first sunny weekend of the year. So somewhere nice to go with friends with a good atmosphere, but if you're looking for a quiet romantic top class place then this isn't quite it.

   Was placed at a table far too close to a table of 4 next to us and behind us. The round table behind had to squash round the tavern to leave walking room for others. Food was nice but no better than other places and I’m not sure it justifies the price tag. Service was slow taking 1:5 hours for 2 courses. We were not offered another drink, and despite saying no to dessert we were not offered coffee. I had put a special occasion on my booking but strangely not acknowledged. Why ask the question if you’re not going to acknowledge! Never saw much of the restaurant due to where we were seated, there was a draft blowing from an open door, and I had to ask twice before it was closed making my dining experience uncomfortable for the most part. Too many rules and regulation on the booking process. I appreciate some people let you down but it is off putting and had I not had a voucher then I probably wouldn’t have bothered. Won’t be rushing back.

   Generally 2/5 Only because waiter was really nice x Burger from todays special was so disappointing So so disappointing Menu didn’t change from such a long time From last 9 years we are comming back to this restaurant But in last 3/4 visits we feel it’s changing for worst Such a scheme

    We thought the setting and atmosphere was very special. Our only critique was the the main menu dishes were extremely small. More like a child’s portion. So I thought the price of both our dishes were extremely expensive. The food was lovely but not enough on it .
