The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

    Our family enjoy the ambience however Customer Service was not good I drinks came the same time as our dinner. Looks like they were short staffed. However overall we enjoyed the beautiful tree and then walk through Macy’s

    The staff were fantastic. So very helpful knowing we had a special needs child in a wheelchair. Good was outstanding. I had the cranberry citrus chicken salad, my favorite. We were never rushed. I love that they now take reservations. No stress.

    The Walnut Room was such a great experience! The tree was beautiful and the food was delicious. Our waiter was attentive. It was a fantastic afternoon!

    The server was less than friendly to the point one guest didn’t eat because of allergies and when asked about making sure no cross contaminations would take place she said she didn’t know. It was like we were bothering her. Photographer was out in store area when we left but we seen her taking pictures by tree for groups inside then selling the prints. Disappointed we weren’t offered that. We can say we came but we wouldn’t come back.

    Fantastic seasonal experience!!! Many years of history for this family! Don’t forget to get your souvenir mug!!! We have collected them since you had to buy the hot chocolate to get one!!!

    It was crazy busy being Black Friday. The decorations were beautiful and staff were all really friendly but it did take a long time to get a server. Ordered the baked salmon, with tomato and basil sauce and asparagus risotto. What came was not that. The salmon did taste great but the sauce tasted like a sort of mustard concoction - definitely not tomato and basil. The risotto was actually just gloopy long grain rice. The asparagus was cooked but cold and sad looking asparagus plopped on top of the rice gloop! An odd touch, maybe it was supposed to be hot but I don’t think so because it was fridge cold! All in all I would go back, it wasn’t awful just odd. Maybe it was just a super busy day and the staff were great!
