The world famous Walnut Room has been a Chicago tradition since 1907. Located on the 7th floor of Macy's on State Street, the Walnut Room was the first restaurant ever opened in a department store. Conveniently located in the heart of the Chicago theater district, the Walnut Room is an excellent choice to take a break from shopping or for a meal and a glass of wine before the show.
Enjoy our Famous Mrs. Herring's Chicken Pot Pie and other well known favorites on the menu.

The braised short rib was delicious!! My husband enjoyed the chicken pot pie. They really make an excellent effort to be sure you enjoy yourself.

The chicken pot pie was as I remembered it - tasty and hot- although the salad on the plate was sadly wilted. The short ribs were very tender with good flavor, but served lukewarm. The grain bowl my daughter had was not good, not flavorful or filling. I’m afraid the best things our crew had were the drinks. It was disappointing, but the wait staff were remarkably polite and doing their best on a busy day. We did have a lovely quiet table in the back with a great view!

We ordered two kids meals but received no cookies and no holiday mugs, which are supposed to be included from the menu. The mugs are "while supplies last," but we were not told they were out or anything, and it was December 1st.

Robert was wonderful! He was able to answer all our questions we had about the drink and food menu. He was very polite and accommodating. Robert is an asset to your team. The Fairy ladies walking around were also polite and entertaining. Thank you to The Walnut Room staff for an enjoyable afternoon Holiday lunch!

Chuck was a spectacular server — he was really what made the whole experience for us! We were sat right next to the tree - a very unexpected surprise, which was extra special for the folks with us who were experiencing the Walnut room for the first time. This is an annual tradition that my family treasures & looks forward to every year. Thank you for another wonderful experience!

This was a super stressful experience and probably not worth it just for the tree. The burger I got was so bland and flavorless i ended up sending it back for the meatloaf instead which was good but the sides that came with it were very small. Most of the dining room you can’t see the tree unless you’re sitting right next to it also. I felt rushed to eat and leave because there was so much going on. It just didn’t seem worth the $90 bill to eat here and only see the tree partially.

Lori was an absolute JOY to have as a server today. The nicest, kindest person we’ve met there in years. The photographer (whose name escapes me) was very very sweet too, and made us all feel comfortable getting our pics taken. A great night for a great tradition.
