Toups' Meatery is a contemporary Cajun restaurant featuring fine food, wine, specialty cocktails, extensive Bourbon selection and charcuterie inspired by deep-rooted Louisiana family traditions. Chef Isaac Toups represents the new guard of Cajun chefs for his updated refined approach to rustic dishes. Cooking the food that’s closest to his heart has earned him rave reviews including recently being named a James Beard Semi-Finalist for Best Chef of the South 2014 & 2015. Located in beautiful Mid City near City Park and the New Orleans Museum of Art.

Like his mentor Emeril Lagasse, Toups gives Cajun classics a sophisticated spin with signature dishes like a double-cut pork chop with dirty rice and cane syrup gastrique. A rustic-chic space with a shaded plant-decked patio, pitch-perfect wines, and an extensive bourbon collection add to the lively vibe—just as a New Orleans restaurant should be.

            This was our first time at Toup's, but it won't be our last! We shared the cheese board and hog's head cheese to start with and then had the lamb neck as our main course. The lamb was stunningly good: rich, flavorful meat which fell away from the bone. It was the kind of dish you find yourself thinking of days later. Exceptional.

            Absolutely love this place! Came here on new years and had a wonderful time I came back for my birthday! Everyone who works here is so wonderful and it’s the best food I’ve had since living in Louisiana! Highly recommend this place.

            this place was absolutely fantastic. We ordered most of the stuff on the menu and everything was great. It is a great place to experience some unique cuisine that you don’t see on traditional restaurant menus. We especially liked the fried turkey neck and the braised lamb neck. The homemade sausage was also hit along with the Cracklin’s and fried Boudin balls. would definitely go back here and highly recommend it. Bonus, when I walked back to use the restroom the chef was actually cooking and not just managing which is a rare occurrence in restaurants.

            Meatery is nothing short of amazing. My wife and I were impressed when we visited last year. Given the name of the place, the meats were exceptional - we had the turkey necks, venison, and duck, each the best serving of the corresponding animal we'd had. The creamed spinach that accompanied the venison was something any carnivore would do well to try, absolutely divine. But the real surprise of the evening, and something that haunted us for at least two months after our visit, were the grits. I would absolutely eat my weight in those grits, if given the opportunity and privacy to do so. This past weekend, March of 2025, we decided to take a quick 5 hour drive south to NOLA to get a Meatery fix. Again, we got grits, we got duck, and we got venison. Each component alone made the drive worth it. We opted for cracklins instead of the turkey necks (no knocks against them, I just wanted to try them). And, we ordered the coconut cake, which was the perfect sweet finish to round things out. Meatery might just be my favorite place on this planet. Thank you for having us, for serving such wonderful food at a more than reasonable price point and in such a down to earth atmosphere.

            Our meals were simply incredible. Best I've had in awhile. The chicken thighs confit and the seafood couvillion were out of this world. It's not a budget meal, but really really worth it if you want to treat yourself.
