This is my 5th time at Uchi and the 2nd time this month. WHAT A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT this visit was.
We had reservations and yet they stuck us in this small room with a view of the kitchen staff. It felt like a punishment or something. Eventually 3 other tables were also sat in the small room with us. I was shocked that one of the parties was wearing cargo shorts, a gray T-shirt and crocs. Yes, crocs. If there isn’t a dress code at Uchi, there needs to be at this price point.
Our waiter was lacking in many ways. He was good for the first 10 minutes and then just seemed to disappear. We had to ask another server to check on our drinks and then it still took another 5 minutes. Our assigned server never really gave us the Uchi experience in describing the food or explaining how it’s to be eaten. My guest had never been and I was embarrassed that his experience was so not the norm there.
Naomi was incredible. She was the server who delivered some of our order and she was delightful and engaging and very informative.
Our server actually said at one point “when the next pieces come out, you’ll eat them the same way”. But it wasn’t him who had told us how to eat anything prior. We waiting and waited a never received the rest of the food we ordered and so we went to track down our check to leave.
Then in this tiny room- someone ordered the hot rock and it completely filled the room with smoke. I have severe asthma and literally had to leave the room and go stand at the front to wait for my guest to pay the bill.
What a mess. I have been raving about uchi for 5 years and then was so utterly disappointed.
Sadly we were there to celebrate our engagement and it was just a total bust of a night. We actually had to go home and make a sandwich since we didn’t even get all our food or finish ordering.
