With every detail considered and every arrangement intended, Umi exists to please with gentle perfection. Perfectly fresh fish is prepared in an elegantly and understated manner. Traditional Japanese decor reflects the ancient art of sushi while lively music and contemporary service align with the modern and masterful preparation of the plates. Climb the steps for an exquisitely refined journey.

Umi is located directly upstairs from Soba in Shadyside. Reservations are available up to 30 days in advance; we look forward to serving you!

        As always Umi as awesome. Little pricey but great food and service. Mr. Shu runs a great resataurant and he is the best sushi chef around.

        I don’t mind spending a lot of $ on a great meal, especially sushi but this was not worth it at all. Soup, salad, thin slices of sashimi, 1 course of bang bang shrimp ( which you can get anywhere now) & sushi sized cod (cheap fish) & 2 drinks each for almost $245 without tip. No ginger, wasabi or rice served until the last course. We were hungry an hour later. The floor tables were cool & server was nice but told us her back & knees hurt from bending so we felt bad each time she stooped to serve us or take plates. Atmosphere is nice but I wouldn’t go back.

        If you’ve never been to an omakase before and you are with someone who is new to raw fish, this is a good decent intro spot.

        UMI is a gem. Every bite was sensational. And our server, Barry, was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The only thing we found a bit off was the background music, but barely so.

        The food was good but the 11 course meal was mainly sashimi and I like rolls and nigiri more. The price is super high for the value in my opinion and a lot of other places that I prefer. Food was good but not worth the money in my opinion.
